The gear is called the "escape wheel", the part that is in contact with the escape wheel is the "verge" and the "pendulum" is what swings back and forth. Raising the pendulum will cause the clock to run faster, lengthing will cause the clock to run slower. The weight of the pendulum has no bearing on the timing of the clock.
